Obama stimulus package versus Kyoto treaty, Bill Clinton & Bush Economy
The Obama & congressional stimulus package is a stunning repudiation of former President Bill Clinton and vice president Al Gore.
Those with any memories of the world before President Bush will know there once was a president called Bill Clinton and he had a vice president named Al Gore. These two notables in the late 1990's were major politicians warning of the coming world destruction by global warming. One of the big ways to address this crises was to join with the rest of the world in reducing humanity's carbon footprint. Some science studies showed a correlation between the rise of carbon dioxide and global temperatures in the last several decades.
Meeting in Kyoto, Japan groups from various nations came to reduce the carbon dioxide production of all nations but mainly that of the United States. Based on some science definitions on productivity the USA was basically declared the biggest threat to global environmental health. A treaty was put together setting goal limits for industrial jobs, productivity and natural resource consumption. The USA was instructed to reduce its national jobs and productivity back to 1990 levels or the equivalent to the drop of 8 percent of the national economic growth. In simple terms that meant a loss of nearly two million jobs.
President Bill Clinton signed the treaty but it was ignored by Congress. When an international treaty is to become law in the United States it must be both signed by the president and passed by two-thirds congressional majority. Despite the negative impact on the USA job situation many liberals felt it was a sacrifice for the world that the country must take to be a real world leader. Al Gore in his presidential campaigns pushed his status as a world leader advocating the Kyoto Treaty. He and the press quietly ignored the negative aspect of the Kyoto Treaty.
Now we are in a job losing recession blamed on former President Bush. The liberals and Obama are complaining of the Bush economy. Yet these declining job loss numbers are exactly the stated goals in the Kyoto Treaty. If Bush is to blame for the economy, then Bush should be hailed as a global Kyoto hero. That is not happening.
In a total repudiation of Bill Clinton and Al Gore and the liberal and conservative environmentalists. Obama and both democrat and republican members of Congress are trying to flush tons of money into a sewer pipe of grab bag projects to supposedly create more jobs. Creating more jobs is just the opposite of the once hailed world environment saving Kyoto Treaty. The realities of political moralities are so fluctuating!
